Government to free hundreds of political prisoners for national unity in Indonesia

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Subianto released hundreds of prisoners to promote national unity in Indonesia.

According to foreign media, Indonesian President Prabodh Subianto has approved the release of hundreds of political prisoners to promote national unity in the country, including former President Joko Widodo.

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Safmi Dasku Ahmad and Minister of Law Sputman Andi Agats, while giving details of the decision, said that initially 1,178 prisoners will be released.

The Indonesian Minister of Law said that political prisoners who are suffering from mental and terminal illnesses will also be released, and priority will be given to the elderly and minors.

Indonesian President Prabodh Subianto, who came to power in October last year and is also the son-in-law of former President Suharto, announced a plan to release 44,000 prisoners in the country, which will help promote democracy in the country.
