OSLO: The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025 has been awarded to Hungarian author László Krásznahorkai.
The Swedish Academy announced that it would award the Nobel Prize in Literature to a Hungarian author.
The winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature is decided by the 18-member Swedish Academy and is usually based on the lifetime work of an author.
According to the Nobel Committee, László Krász Nahorkai is a writer who has ensured the power of art even in difficult times.
The statement said that he is the best writer who writes about Central European traditions and is being awarded the Nobel Prize in recognition of his influential and insightful works.
His early novels often depicted the towns and villages of Central Europe, from Hungary to Germany, but his later creative work took readers to the Far East.
Trips to China and Japan have had a profound impact on his creative work. This is the second time that a Hungarian author has won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The previous winner was Imre Kertész in 2002. László Krász Nahorkai, from Gyula, a small town in southeastern Hungary, rose to fame in 1985 with his first novel, Satantango, which became a huge hit in Hungary.
Several of his novels have been adapted into films, including Satantango, which was made into a film that was over 7 hours long.
Interestingly, his name was already among the favourites for the Nobel Prize in Literature this year.
