ISFAHAN: Israel launched an attack on Iran on Friday morning, US officials told the international broadcaster ABC News. However, Israeli leadership has not issued any statement yet.
However, Iran has denied claims of the Israeli attack on its territory, following the explosions in Isfahan.
Explosions heard in Isfahan were a result of the activation of air defense systems, an Iranian official told Reuters on Friday, adding that no missile attack was carried out against Iran.
After Saturday night’s attack carried out by Iran, the Islamic Republic remained on high alert after Israel said it would respond to an Iranian missile and drone attack in the latest tit-for-tat exchange between the two Middle Eastern foes.
According to the Iranian media, explosions were heard in the central city of Isfahan. Iranian officials said that three drones were shot down by air defense systems.
Senior army commander Second Brigadier General Siavosh Mihandoust was quoted by state TV as saying air defense systems had targeted a “suspicious object“.

There was no “damage or incident” in Isfahan Province, said commander Mihandoust, the state-run Tasnim news agency reported. All facilities in the area are secure, including significant nuclear facilities, Tasnim reported.
Earlier, reports suggested that flights had been suspended over several cities across Iran after reports of explosions near a military base in Isfahan, however, flight suspension was lifted later on Friday, a spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Organization said.
Earlier on Saturday, Iran attacked Israel with about 100 drones and cruise missiles in response to the Iranian consulate building targeted in an airstrike on April 1.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had warned Israel before Friday’s strike that Tehran would deliver a “severe response” to any attack on its territory.
