Iran protests intensify as death toll rises

TEHRAN: The ongoing violent protests against inflation in Iran have intensified, with 2 security personnel killed and 30 injured in the latest protests.

According to the Iranian news agency Fars News, the protests turned violent when shopkeepers in the city of Lordagan closed their shops and took to the streets in large numbers, shouting slogans against the government.

According to the report, protesters pelted stones at the police during the protests, while some protesters opened fire on security personnel, resulting in the deaths of 2 personnel and injuries to 30.

According to Iranian media, protesters in the city of Lordagan damaged the governor’s office and other government buildings.

Meanwhile, a shop was set on fire in the city of Bojnord in the border province of North Khorasan, but security personnel took timely action and moved a nearby citizen’s car to a safe location and saved it from catching fire.

According to officials, additional security forces have been deployed in the affected areas to control the situation.

It should be noted that protests against inflation have been ongoing in Iran for 11 days and the number of people killed in clashes during this time has reached 35.

According to American media, protests were held in Tehran, Shiraz and western regions, and about 1,200 people were arrested during the protests.

According to Iranian media, about 250 police officers and 45 members of the Basij Force were injured in the protests, while the Iranian Foreign Ministry says that the United States and Israel are interfering in Iran’s internal affairs and encouraging violence.
