TEHRAN: Iran has warned the United States that it will consider any attack on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a cause for all-out war.

Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga said in a statement on the social networking site X (formerly Twitter) that Iran will respond harshly and regrettably to any unjust aggression.

He said that an attack on the Supreme Leader would in fact be a declaration of all-out war against Iran.

The statement came after recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who had strongly warned of a crackdown on protesters in Iran and possible executions.

Trump said in an interview with Politico on Saturday that “it is time to bring new leadership to Iran,” to which the Iranian leadership reacted strongly.

In addition, the Iranian president blamed the United States and its allies for the ongoing economic crisis in the country and said that long-standing sanctions and hostility have increased the hardships of the Iranian people.
