SYDNEY: Propaganda by Indian and Israeli media outlets linking the terrorist attack in Sydney to Pakistan has been exposed.
Australian investigative authorities have not issued any statement linking the attackers to Pakistan.
Additionally, a colleague of Naveed Akram stated in a video message that Naveed’s mother was Italian while his father was Indian.
Soon after the incident, Indian and Israeli media outlets, along with affiliated social media accounts, attempted to associate the attack with Pakistan.
An Israeli newspaper claimed the attackers were Pakistani, while social media accounts linked to India’s intelligence agency “RAW” amplified the narrative.
However, sources said that Pakistani records show no evidence that individuals named Sajid Akram or Naveed Akram were Pakistani nationals.
Pakistani officials in Australia also confirmed that the local Pakistani community has no information suggesting the attackers were Pakistani.
Briefings issued so far by Australian authorities have made no mention of Pakistan. Despite this, the Indian media falsely claimed that Sajid Akram had entered Australia on a tourist visa.
According to verified information, Sajid Akram arrived in Australia in 1998 on a student visa, which was later converted into a partner visa in 2001 after his marriage to an Australian woman named Warina.
These details were confirmed by Australian Home Minister Tony Burke.
Some Western media outlets further claimed that US intelligence had confirmed the attackers’ links to Pakistan.
However, sources said Sajid Akram had been a member of an Australian gun club for the past 10 years and possessed six licensed firearms.
It is noteworthy that the Indian media had earlier aired photographs of a Pakistani national residing in Australia, Sheikh Naveed, falsely identifying him as the Sydney attacker.
Sheikh Naveed later released a video statement rejecting the allegations and exposing the false propaganda, clarifying that he had no connection whatsoever to the incident.
The deadly attack took place in Sydney, where 16 people, including one attacker, were killed and nearly 40 others were injured.
One assailant was shot dead by police, while the second was arrested in an injured condition and remains under medical treatment.
