TEHRAN: Iran’s Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif has resigned from his post.

He has sent his resignation to President Masoud Pezishkian, who has yet to make a decision on it.

No official statement has been issued in this regard yet.

Earlier, Zarif said he had resigned on the advice of the head of the judiciary to help ease pressure on President Pezishkian’s administration.

In a post on his X account on Monday morning, Zarif wrote that he had visited the head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Eji, on Saturday at Mohseni Eji’s invitation.

During the meeting, the head of the judiciary had suggested that “Given the situation in the country, I will return to the university to avoid further pressure on the administration,” IRNA reported.

Zarif said he took the advice immediately because he did not want to be a burden on the administration.

“I am proud to support the esteemed Dr. Pezishkian and I wish him and other true servants of the people the best,” he was quoted as saying.
