WASHINGTON: A US official has said that Vice President JD Vance believes that a deal with Iran is still possible but that Iran has misjudged its strength.
According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), a US official said that after returning from talks with Iran in Islamabad without achieving a result on the nuclear weapons issue, Vice President JD Vance believes that a deal with Iran is still possible.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, summarized the talks that JD Vance, who led the US delegation, held the talks and believed that Iran had misjudged its strength in terms of transactions in the talks.
He said that the US and Iran have not reached a final agreement on a wide range of issues.
According to the US official, these issues include ending Iran’s uranium enrichment, a comprehensive peace framework including allies in the region and a solution to restore the Strait of Hormuz, which does not include collecting toll fees.
It should be noted that negotiations between the American and Iranian delegations in Islamabad lasted for more than 21 hours. In addition to JD Vance, the American delegation included Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff, while the Iranian side included Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and others.
