GAZA: In the latest escalation of hostilities, Hamas’ military wing launched a missile attack on the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv, setting off alarm sirens throughout the city, here on Sunday.

As per the media reports, the attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Hamas citing Israeli injustices as the reason for its offensive.

Earlier, Hamas’ military wing, the Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack and said its fighters had “killed and captured” an unspecified number of Israeli soldiers in the Jabalia camp. However, the Israeli army has denied these claims.

The situation in Gaza has worsened, with reports indicating a serious humanitarian crisis. Four aid trucks from Egypt have entered Gaza through the Karim Abu Salem (Karim Shalom) crossing, as international groups have raised the alarm over the possibility of famine in the enclave.

The Egyptian Red Crescent has announced plans for more than 200 trucks to enter Gaza in response to the worsening situation.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its attacks on Gaza, resulting in the death of over 80 Palestinians in the last 24 hours alone. Since October 7, the death toll in Gaza has risen significantly, with at least 35,984 Palestinians killed and 80,643 injured in Israel’s war on the territory. By contrast, the death toll from Hamas attacks in Israel is 1,139, with dozens still imprisoned.

The latest escalation in violence underscores the urgent need for international intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to facilitate negotiations between Israel and Hamas to achieve a lasting ceasefire.
