Mosque bomb blast in Nigeria

MAIDUGURI: At least 7 worshippers were killed in a bomb blast at a mosque in the northeastern city of Maiduguri, the African country of Nigeria.

The AFP news agency reported, citing security sources, that the explosion occurred during prayers, which damaged the mosque.

After the explosion, panic spread in the area, security forces surrounded the scene and started an investigation. So far, no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

It should be noted that Maiduguri is the capital of Borno state, which has been the center of the insurgency of the extremist organization Boko Haram and its faction Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) for the past several years.
