Prince Andrew arrested over alleged abuse of official position

LONDON: Prince Andrew, a member of the British royal family, has been arrested on suspicion of abuse of official position.

According to police, the former prince was detained at his residence in Norfolk, while a formal investigation into the matter has also been launched. According to police officials, searches are underway at various locations in Berkshire and Norfolk after the arrest.

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright of Thames Valley Police said that after an initial assessment, a formal inquiry has been launched into allegations of possible abuse of official authority.

He said that maintaining the transparency and impartiality of the investigation is of utmost importance and that further information will be provided in due course in view of the public interest.

In images appearing in the British media, police officers can be seen arriving at the Wood Farm residence of the royal family in unmarked vehicles on the Sandringham Estate and carrying out the operation. According to reports, the operation was carried out at around 8 am.

Police sources say Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is accused of sharing sensitive information with American billionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time in office.
