MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that Russia will continue to look for an alternative to the dollar.
According to an international news agency report, in his address to the Russian Legislative Assembly, the Russian Foreign Minister said that when the United States and its allies imposed sanctions on Russia and used this currency of foreign exchange reserves as a political weapon to isolate Russia from it, Russia had to look for alternative payment platforms.
According to reports, the Russian Foreign Minister recalled that US President Donald Trump had criticized the BRICS in his official statements during his second term in office for mainly challenging the dominance of the dollar.
In response to his criticism, Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified that we did not reject the dollar, but the fact is that by abusing the dollar’s status as the global reserve currency and using it as a political weapon, only Russia was cut off from the dollar.
“That’s why we have to find alternative payment platforms and we will continue to do so,” Sergei Lavrov reportedly said.
