RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Passport and Immigration has announced new regulations about changing the photo on an Iqama, which is a residence permit.
According to the recent statement of the Ministry, a foreign worker can apply for a photo change in his Iqama in case of a visible change in his appearance or facial features. However, the request must be supported by a valid reason, as photo changes are not permitted without justification.
The minister explained in a report carried by the Saudi news agency that photo change on Iqama is applicable only when there is a clear change in the appearance of the individual. The applicant has to produce a valid explanation for the change. Without a valid reason, no photo modification is accepted.
It also reiterated, in response to queries on social media, that foreign workers whose Iqama photos are quite different from their present appearance should book an appointment at their local office of Jazat.
In addition, a valid passport and a new photo are required when submitting the application requesting a photo change.
In another important update, the ministry reminded foreign workers that Iqama issuance for those entering the Kingdom on a work visa must be done within 90 days. Those who fail to secure an Iqama after the three-month period will be charged a fine of 500 Saudi Riyals.
Jazat added that all newly arriving foreign workers also have to undergo a medical test before their Iqama is issued.
