MUZAFFARABAD: In a dramatic turn of events, PPP’s Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has been elected as the 16th Leader of the House in the Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly after a no-confidence vote toppled Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq. The resolution passed with 36 votes in favor and only two against, prompting Haq and his supporters to walk out of the House.
The PPP had formally submitted the no-confidence motion earlier, nominating Rathore — son of former AJK premier Raja Mumtaz Rathore, as Haq’s successor.
According to reports, the PPP had already marshaled a majority, claiming support from more than 36 lawmakers ahead of the vote. The News International.
Rathore, who currently serves as Secretary General of PPP AJK, is being praised by his party as an educated, conciliatory leader capable of steering a stable government
The change in leadership comes at a crucial time, as the PPP seeks to consolidate power in AJK ahead of the region’s next general election.
