RIYADH: Imam of the Kaaba Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid has been appointed as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia.
According to a royal proclamation, Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid was born in 1949 in the city of Buraidah, Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Saleh received a degree in jurisprudence from the Islamic University of Mecca. Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid was also the speaker of the Saudi Shura Council from 2002 to 2009.
Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid has been appointed as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia after the death of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh.
The Saudi Royal Court announced the death of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh on Tuesday morning.
Earlier, The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, 82, passed away on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Saudi Press Agency.
“The Royal Court announced today the passing of Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, who also served as the head of the Council of Senior Scholars, the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, and the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League,” the statement reads.
“Funeral prayer will be held for him at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer today.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has ordered that funeral prayers in absentia also be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom”, the statement added.
