RIYAD: A meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held today to sight the moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Saudi News Agency, the Saudi Supreme Court has appealed to citizens to try to sight the moon of Dhul-Hijjah this evening and submit the testimony to the relevant authorities.

Astronomers say that there is a clear possibility of seeing the moon of Dhul-Hijjah in Saudi Arabia today. If the moon is sighted, the important days of Eid al-Adha and Hajj will be officially announced.

Monday, May 18, is likely to be declared as the first day of Dhul-Hijjah in Saudi Arabia, under which the most important part of the Hajj rituals, the Wukuf Arafa, will be performed on Tuesday, May 26, while Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27.

On the other hand, Suparco has predicted that the moon of Dhul Hijjah is likely to be sighted in Pakistan on May 17, thus Eid-ul-Adha is strongly expected to be on May 27. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make a final announcement regarding the sighting of the moon of Dhul Hijjah this evening.
