Jeddah: Sharaf al-Sufiani, the leader of the Horizons Society for Space Sciences in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has declared that Ramadan will start in the country on March 11.

According to Sufiani, the new moon of the month will appear on March 10 at 12:00 PM local time in Makkah. He mentioned that the sun will set at 6:27 PM on the same day, and the new moon will be visible on the horizon for 13 minutes, indicating that the first day of Ramadan will be on March 11.

However, Sufiani clarified that these calculations are based solely on scientific data, and the final decision regarding the start of Ramadan will be made after receiving moon sighting testimonies at the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, Gulf News reported that the central conjunction is expected to happen on March 10 at 9:00 AM GMT, indicating that the moon will likely set after sunset in most regions of the Islamic world. Based on this forecast, many Muslim countries are expected to begin Ramadan on March 11.

Nevertheless, Gulf News also mentioned the possibility that the crescent moon might not be sighted in certain regions on March 10, considering various criteria for visibility outlined in scientific studies.
