DOHA: Former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has passed away at the age of 74, according to the Qatari Emiri Diwan.
The news of his death is being expressed globally, including in Qatar.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. During his reign, Qatar made significant economic, diplomatic, and global progress and became one of the richest countries in the world.
In 2013, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani voluntarily handed over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The transfer of power was considered a major political development in the region, and Sheikh Hamad later played a role in Qatar’s development and international relations.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, saying that Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa played an important role in promoting friendly relations between Pakistan and Qatar.
Ishaq Dar said that the former Qatari Emir’s services for peace, stability and development in the region will always be remembered, and also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and the Qatari people.
During the tenure of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar strengthened its identity in the fields of global politics, energy, diplomacy and economics. Under his leadership, the country completed several important development projects and increased its influence at the global level.
