RIYADH: In a remarkable and unprecedented event, the vast desert of Saudi Arabia has turned into a snow-covered winter spectacle for the first time in history.

A rare snowfall has been reported in Saudi Arabia‘s Al-Jawf region, covering the barren landscape in a blanket of snow and creating a stunning winter scene.

The National Meteorological Center in the United Arab Emirates explained that the unusual weather phenomenon was caused by low pressure systems over the Arabian Sea which caused a significant drop in temperature. This unexpected cold is in stark contrast to the region’s typical climate, where temperatures can soar up to 55 degrees Celsius.

Thunderstorms, hail and rain also occurred in parts of Saudi Arabia and the neighbouring UAE due to the unusually cold weather. People across the region expressed surprise, as this level of cold is very rare in the Arabian Peninsula.

In response to the unusual event, some online commentators even wondered if such phenomena could mark a turning point or the end of time. Nevertheless, meteorologists emphasized that it was a naturally occurring, albeit rare, weather event due to regional atmospheric conditions.

The snow-capped dunes of the Arabian Desert have mesmerized locals and observers alike, a moment of history for an otherwise bustling landscape.
