WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has decided to send his special envoy Steve Wittkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan to participate in the ongoing peace talks with Iran.

According to a CNN report, the talks are expected to take place in Islamabad this weekend, where Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is also expected to participate.

The report states that US Vice President JD Vance will not participate in the talks this time because Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who is considered a key member of the Iran negotiation team, is not part of the delegation.

However, according to US officials, if the talks progress, the Vice President has been prepared to be immediately summoned to Islamabad, while his staff is already in Pakistan.

According to the report, Jared Kushner and Steve Wittkoff have been involved in discussions with Iranian officials on a possible nuclear deal for the past several months, to reach an agreement regarding Tehran’s nuclear materials.

With this development, the negotiations between Iran and the United States appear to be entering a crucial phase once again, and Pakistan is playing a role as a diplomatic host in this process.

Meanwhile, Reuters has also reported that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner will soon visit Pakistan to participate in negotiations with the Iranian Foreign Minister.

Quoting a US official, Reuters said that Vice President JD Vance does not currently plan to participate in the visit, but if there is progress in the negotiations, he will be made ready to go to Islamabad immediately.

It should be noted that the possibilities of the US and Iran sitting at the negotiating table have once again become clear after important talks with Pakistan’s mediation team.

According to official Pakistani sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad tonight, while the US logistics and security team is already in the capital.
