UNCCD COP16 conference in Riyadh to address global drought issue

ISLAMABAD (Rizwan Abbasi): The COP16 conference, organized under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), will be held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, from December 2 to 13, 2024.

Representatives from 197 countries will gather to devise a historic strategy to address the pressing global issue of drought. This conference aims to be a milestone in tackling the challenges posed by climate change and achieving sustainable development goals on a global scale.

During the UNCCD’s COP16 conference, experts will present recommendations focusing on the effective utilization of political, financial, and human resources to combat drought. Representatives from various countries will exchange experiences and discuss challenges, helping pave the way for a unified global strategy.

Given the increasing impact of drought, urgent actions are necessary, and the COP16 conference provides the global community with a critical opportunity to collaborate on finding a permanent and effective solution.
