WASHINGTON: The US has imposed sanctions on 35 Iranian entities and individuals in Iran’s banking sector.
According to the US Treasury Department, these entities and individuals helped to smuggle billions of dollars’ worth of oil.
The US has threatened to impose sanctions on Iranian banks that are working with Chinese refineries that are paying tolls to get their ships out of the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has also warned companies that pay tolls to the Iranian government, saying that several independent Chinese companies in the Chinese province of Shandong import or refine Iranian oil.
