Ramadan Mubarak! If you’re one of the world’s millions of Muslims observing Ramadan this month, chances are you’re fasting from dawn to sunset each day. Here are some key things to keep in mind while fasting:
1. Intention (Niyyah): Have a sincere intention to fast for the sake of pleasing Allah.
2. Suhur: Eat a pre-dawn meal (Suhur) before the Fajr prayer to sustain energy throughout the day.
3. Avoidance of Food, Drink: Abstain from all food, drink, smoking, from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib).
4. Prayer and Reflection: Increase your prayers, recitation of the Quran, and engage in reflection and self-assessment.
5. Patience and Self-Control: Exercise patience, self-control, and restraint from negative behaviors or actions.
6. Charity and Generosity: Give to those in need, whether through Zakat (obligatory charity) or Sadaqah (voluntary charity).
7. Avoiding Negative Speech and Actions: Refrain from gossip, lying, and engaging in any negative behaviors.
8. Health Considerations: If fasting poses a risk to your health, consult with a healthcare professional and consider alternative ways to observe Ramadan, such as offering fidya (feeding a needy person for each missed day).
9. Breaking Fast (Iftar): Break your fast promptly at sunset with dates and water, followed by a balanced meal.
10. Gratitude: Be grateful for the opportunity to fast and for the blessings in your life.
