A dozen eggs now cost Rs 420, according to the statistics agency, with notable price increases in major cities like Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Peshawar.

Prices are going up in Sialkot; a dozen eggs now cost Rs 410.

In a similar vein, customers in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Larkana, and Multan are shelling out Rs 400 for a dozen. Not far behind, Quetta and Bannu are charging Rs 400 per dozen, while Khuzdar and Sukkur are charging Rs 390 per dozen.

The egg prices in Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Hyderabad have surged to Rs 380 per dozen.

Meanwhile, in Lahore, the official price stands at Rs 364 per dozen, but discrepancies arise as shopkeepers sell eggs at varying rates.

The statistics agency highlights the widespread nature of this surge, impacting consumers nationwide.

As households grapple with rising living costs, the escalation in egg prices adds further strain to daily budgets.

The discrepancy between official rates and market prices, particularly in Lahore, raises questions about market regulations and the need for intervention to ensure fair pricing for essential commodities.

Although the government has authorized the import of soybeans—a vital ingredient in the production of eggs—no formal announcement has been made as of yet. According to additional sources, this delay has contributed to the current inflationary cycle.

According to sources, the Ministry of Climate Change is primarily to blame for the notification delay that has led to regulatory inaction regarding imports of soybeans. Because they are the main component of chicken feed, soybeans are essential to the production of eggs.

They added that the delay in importing soybeans might cause more difficulties in maintaining egg production, worsening the current shortage.
