KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced the waiver of the first e-challan issued on traffic violations. He decided Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon submitted a report on the traffic violation record of government vehicles.
The report states that so far, 35 government vehicles have been issued e-challans for not wearing a seat belt, jumping red lights, having tinted windows, and using mobile phones while driving. These include one police vehicle – SPE-950 – which was fined for a seat belt violation on the Lyari Expressway.
DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah informed the chief minister that the first e-challan was issued to a police vehicle on October 28, 1:36 p.m., for not wearing a seat belt at two locations on the Garden-Lyari Expressway.
IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon has said that the citizens can get a waiver for their first e-challan within a period of 10 days. The fee will be canceled, while repeat offenders will have to pay the fine.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah called upon citizens to adhere to traffic rules for their own safety, saying, “The civilized citizens always abide by traffic rules.” He asserted that police themselves were never above the law and that the modernized e-ticketing system was proving effective. He also stressed that all citizens have equal rights and the law must be enforced fairly.
