Decline in Pakistan’s exports put question mark on performance of Trade Officers Abroad

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (Rizwan Abbasi): Continuous decline in domestic exports of Pakistan taking trade deficit to 24 billion dollars has put a question mark on the performance of country’s trade mission in 52 countries across globe which instead of executing their assigned responsibilities remained restricted to hold exhibitions and seminars.

According to the report, only 19 trade attachés of 52 countries could nominally increase Pakistan’s exports, during the last year with South Asian countries like Afghanistan, Iran, India and Bangladesh, Pakistan’s exports decreased even to its closest friend China in a year.

Pakistan’s exports decreased by 757 million dollars, exports to Afghanistan decreased by 30 thousand 510 dollars last year. Exports to Bangladesh decreased by one hundred and four thousand dollars, to Belgium by more than sixteen thousand dollars and to Egypt by eighteen thousand dollars.

During one-year, Pakistani exports to Germany decreased by 151 thousand dollars and exports to Kazakhstan decreased by more than 12 thousand dollars. Last year, Pakistani exports to Malaysia decreased by more than 135 thousand dollars. Dollars have decreased, in one year less exports were made to Qatar by 33 thousand dollars and to Turkey by 31 thousand three dollars, exports with Russia decreased by 45 thousand seven hundred dollars and with Poland by 13 thousand dollars, in one-year Pakistani exports to the United Arab Emirates decreased by 373 thousand dollars.

Exports to Great Britain decreased by 232 thousand dollars and exports to America decreased by more than 875 thousand dollars. Exports to Algeria, Hong Kong, Ethiopia, India, Jordan, Argentina, Mexico and Vietnam also decreased, Pakistan’s exports to Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Indonesia, Italy and Japan increased slightly, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Exports also increased with South Africa, South Korea, Senegal, Spain, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
