ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has issued a statement regarding the electricity situation in the country during peak hours, according to which an increase in electricity demand has been recorded in the country.
According to the Power Division spokesperson, the increase in water release from the Tarbela Dam at night has improved the hydropower generation, after which the total hydropower generation during peak hours last night was 6,000 MW, while the total hydropower generation capacity in the country is 11,500 MW.
The spokesperson said that the increase in hydropower generation has stabilized the national grid and made it easier to add another 100 MW to the system from the southern part of the country. Thus, a total of 500 MW of electricity was transmitted from the south.
According to the Power Division, last night, the electricity distribution companies carried out load management for one to two hours during peak hours. The spokesperson said that despite the high demand for electricity due to the increase in hydroelectric power generation, load management did not exceed two hours.
The spokesperson added that load management is being done under the economic load management policy on feeders with high losses in the country, however, economic load management has nothing to do with load management during peak hours.
According to the Power Division, due to the unavailability of LNG due to global conditions, 5,500 MW power plants are not generating electricity. The spokesperson said that the night-time shortfall will end after the availability of LNG and further increase in water discharge.
