ISLAMABAD: A slight increase in the price of electricity has been shown in the country. It has been proposed to increase electricity by 26 paise per unit for one month, which has been sought as part of the monthly fuel adjustment for March.

According to sources, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hold a hearing on the request of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) tomorrow. The possible increase in electricity prices will be reviewed in this hearing and the decision will be issued later.

According to the CPPA report, a total of 8 billion 93 crore 90 lakh units of electricity were generated in the country during March. During this time, electricity generation continued from various sources to meet the national demand.

The report states that 8 billion 64 crore 40 lakh units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies during the same period. This shows that there was a slight difference between generation and delivery.

According to the CPPA, the reference cost for March was fixed at Rs 7.99 per unit. However, due to fuel adjustment, there was a difference in the actual cost, on the basis of which an increase of 26 paise per unit has been requested.

According to officials, a final decision will be taken after the hearing of NEPRA whether to increase the electricity price or not. If approved, it will have a direct impact on the electricity bills of the consumers. The increase in electricity price will also apply to K-Electric.
