KARACHI: In a recent development, the electricity tariffs are likely to further reduce under the Pakistan monthly and quarterly adjustments. According to the details, the March monthly adjustment might make electricity cheaper by 3 paisas per unit, while the quarterly adjustment is anticipated to result in a decrease of more than Re1 per unit.

Overall, the quarterly adjustment is expected to provide relief of about Rs51.49 billion.

For the third quarter adjustment of the fiscal year 2024–2025, a formal petition has been submitted. Tomorrow, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority ( NEPRA) will hold a hearing on the requests for the quarterly and monthly modifications.

The suit claims that 8.409 billion units of power were produced in March for Rs9.22 per unit. In March, the reference price per unit for electricity was Rs9.25.

Furthermore, a reduction of Rs47.124 billion is requested under the capacity charges heading in the quarterly adjustment.

Due to Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) lowered the electricity rate by up to Rs3 per unit in March.

Notifications state that customers of government-owned DISCOs would receive a decrease of Rs2.12 per unit. For K-Electric customers, a price cut of Rs3 per unit was also authorized.

Customers received the advantage of the lower electricity pricing in their March 2025 bills.

Refunds were authorized for KE users in December 2024 and for Discos customers in January 2025.
