ISLAMABAD: The federal government has taken notice of wheat import more than the national requirement. The government has officially imposed a ban on the import and export of wheat.

The Ministry of Commerce has issued a notification in this regard. The federal government has amended the Import Policy Order and Export Policy Order, immediately enforcing a prohibition on the import and export of wheat.

This decision comes as part of the government’s measures to regulate the wheat supply in the country. The federal govt also banned the export of flour made from imported wheat.

In a separate notification, govt announced banning the export of wheat-derived products including wheat flour, maida, and suji, ensuring that the domestic market retains these essential food items.

Earlier, the current government had given conditional permission to export flour in March. The government had allowed the export of flour made from imported wheat for export purposes under the Export Facilitation Scheme 2021.
