Fee for vehicle emissions testing announced

LAHORE: The government of Punjab has introduced a test fee for vehicle emissions. Under a notification by the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a maximum of Rs200 will be charged as a test fee for vehicle emissions.

Before this decision, the Punjab EPA used to test vehicular emissions at no cost. The Punjab is willing to initiate a crackdown on dirty vehicles so that they will be unable to contribute to smog. No vehicle without a green sticker (emission test clearance) will be permitted entry in Lahore during smog time.

In exercise of powers under Section 7(c) of the Punjab Environmental Protection Act, 1997 (XXXIV of 1997), read with Section 5(4) of the Act, the Director General, Environmental Protection Agency, Punjab is pleased to fix and notify the following schedule of fees for vehicular emission test”, states a notification signed by the EPA Director General Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh.

The rikshaw and motorcycle will be charged Rs 100 and Rs 300 respectively, as per the timetable.

In the same manner, car up to 1000CC and below will be Rs500, up to 1500 CC Rs800, 1500 CC to 2500 CC Rs1000, 2500 CC to 4500 CC Rs1500 and 4500 CC or above Rs2000.

“The above fee schedule shall be collected at the time of testing of vehicular emission by the Environmental Protection Agency, Punjab, except for enforcement actions.

The vehicle owner/operator shall pay the prescribed fee into the government-designated account No. C-03855 of the Provincial Environmental Protection Agency. This Notification shall be effective from 01.10.2025”, reads the notification
