ISLAMABAD: The Consumer Association of Pakistan (CAP) has sounded the alarm on frozen food brands including Sabroso, accusing them of charging consumers for the weight of ice along with their products.

While talking to press, the CAP Chairman Kokab Iqbal, stated that this practice is rampant due to a lack of regulation, with the government only fixing rates for fruits, vegetables, and groceries.

Iqbal has expressed concern that the growing demand for frozen food, driven by a decline in home cooking, has led to exploitation by sellers.

He questioned the Food Authority Department and Bureau of Supply about their oversight, asking if they have inspected frozen food manufacturer Sabroso Pakistan’s premises for hygiene and fair pricing practices.

The CAP chairman urged the Director General of the Food Authority to investigate frozen food manufacturers and provide consumers with information on product quality, quantity, and expiration dates. He also emphasized the need for transparency about the benefits and drawbacks of consuming frozen food.

Iqbal warned frozen food sellers to label their products with manufacturing and expiration dates clearly and to display banners indicating that the price does not include the ice cost.

The CAP has demanded that provincial governments take immediate action to ensure that frozen food sellers sell products by weight only.

Despite repeated attempts, the concerned company [Sabroso] chose not to respond regarding the issue.
