Govt collects Rs107 per litre of petrol in taxes, margins

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has been collecting Rs 107.12 in taxes, duties, and margins from the consumers on one liter of petrol and Rs 104.59 on one liter of high-speed diesel.

A local publication, citing official documents, reported that a levy of Rs 70 was imposed on one liter of petrol and high-speed diesel, the highest ever in the country’s history.

According to the document, per liter of high-speed also includes Rs 15.78 as customs duty, and dealers’ commission of Rs 8.64 per liter is being collected on petrol and high-speed diesel.

According to the available data, as per the publication, the margin of oil marketing companies is Rs 7.87 per liter of petrol and high-speed diesel. Rs 5.33 of Inland Freight Equalization Margin (EFEM) was also included in one litre of petrol and Rs 2.30 for one litre of diesel.

According to the document, currently, no sales tax is being collected on petrol and diesel, however, the ex-refinery price of petrol before duty is Rs 148.51 per liter, while the price of petrol for citizens is fixed at Rs 255.63 per liter.

The ex-refinery price of high-speed diesel is Rs 154.06 per liter, while the price of high-speed diesel for citizens is fixed at Rs 258.64 per liter.
