ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced the customs value of used smartphones. As a result, there has been a clear reduction in the PTA tax levied on expensive mobile phones, especially the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to sources, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax is determined on the basis of customs value, sales tax and mobile levy. And since the government has reduced the customs value of used phones. Therefore, the overall cost of mobile phone registration has also reduced.

Under the newly determined customs values, the PTA tax on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max has been fixed at Rs 55,000 in case of registration through passport. While in case of registration through National Identity Card, this tax will be Rs 70,000.

This reduction is quite significant compared to the previous tax rates. Because earlier, the PTA tax was being collected much higher on these models. Due to which the consumers were facing difficulties for a long time.

According to experts, this decision will not only benefit the general consumers. It will also boost the buying and selling in the local mobile market. It will encourage the registration of mobile phones legally. And the use of smuggled or unregistered phones is likely to decrease.

After the government’s initiative, the prices of smartphones in Pakistan have come closer to the global market. Which is being called a positive step towards the promotion of digital services.
