ISLAMABAD: The federal government has lifted the ban on the import and export of gold.
After the approval of the federal cabinet, the Ministry of Commerce has issued a notification to lift the ban on the import and export of gold.
According to the notification, the suspended SRO related to the global trade of gold has been restored.
The notification states that the federal government has also made some amendments related to the import and export of precious metals and jewelry.
While the framework for the import and export of precious metals and jewelry will remain intact, the framework will continue with improvements in transparency and automation.
A ban on the export and import of gold was imposed in May this year, and the Ministry of Commerce suspended the SRO regulating the gold trade for 60 days on May 6, 2025.
Sources say that the ban on export and import was imposed on a complaint of gold smuggling.
