ISLAMABAD: The continuous increase in the prices of food items in the city has increased the problems for people. Due to the rising prices of rice, ghee, oil, vegetables, and fruits, citizens say that even basic food items of daily use are becoming out of their reach.
In the market, first-grade rice is being sold for Rs 480 to 550 per kilogram, while premium quality packed rice is being sold for Rs 640 per kilogram.
Similarly, the price of second-grade rice is available for Rs 380 to 450, third-grade rice for Rs 300 to 360, while Udhwad rice is available for Rs 280 per kilogram.
On the other hand, consumers are waiting for a reduction in the prices of ghee and oil; however, the price of third-grade ghee and oil has increased to Rs 490 per kilogram.
Citizens have demanded that the government take effective steps to immediately reduce the prices of ghee and oil. Read more: Lesco officers and employees involved in electricity theft revealed. The prices of vegetables and fruits are also becoming out of the purchasing power of the common man.
According to the citizens, in most places, sales are going on at arbitrary prices, ignoring the official price list. In the market, onions are being sold at Rs 120 to 130, tomatoes at Rs 250, potatoes at Rs 60, ginger at Rs 450 and garlic at Rs 400 per kilogram.
Citizens say that vegetables are not available anywhere in the city at the official price list, while shopkeepers are of the opinion that unless prices in vegetable markets are effectively controlled, a reduction in rates is not possible. Citizens have demanded that the district administration ensure strict implementation of the official price list.
