ISLAMABAD: The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has increased by Rs. 50 per kg, indicating a significant increase affecting both domestic and commercial consumers, here on Monday.

Irfan Khokhar, chairman of LPG Distributors Association, attributed the price hike to the unauthorized practices of LPG marketing companies and plant mafia, who sold LPG at high prices instead of following the prices set by the government. Yes, it has started selling.

Khokhar expressed concern over increasing black marketing across the country, stressing that consumers are unable to get LPG at official rates. Earlier it was worth Rs. 234.60 per kg, LPG is now retailing between Rs. 280 to Rs.285 per kg in the market.

In the aftermath of this increase, the cost of domestic cylinders has surged to Rs. 3,370 from Rs. 2,770, while commercial cylinders are now being sold at Rs. 12,435, up from Rs. 10,715.

The chairman criticized the government for succumbing to the influence of the gas mafia, saying that unless decisive action is taken against these powerful entities, the menace of black marketing will continue.

Rising LPG prices pose a significant financial burden on households and businesses alike, leading to urgent calls for government intervention to stabilize prices and tackle illegal market practices.

As consumers grapple with the impact of price hikes, the situation underscores the critical need for regulatory measures to protect fair pricing and ensure access to essential energy resources.
