ISLAMABAD: The Milk Sellers Union has rejected the announcement of a hike in milk prices by dairy farmers and has refused to buy expensive milk.

According to the union, the continuous increase in milk prices is unacceptable and will severely affect the common citizens. The milk sellers have demanded that the government immediately ensure implementation of the official price.

The Milk Sellers Union has warned that if the announcement of a hike in prices is not withdrawn, milk supply will be stopped.

On the other hand, the dairy farmers have announced a hike in milk prices of Rs 25 per liter from May 16, after which buffalo milk will be sold at Rs 245 and cow milk at Rs 195 per liter wholesale.

According to the union, after this increase, the price of milk at the retail level can reach Rs 270 per liter, while the official price is fixed at Rs 170 per liter.
