LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has officially announced an increase in train fares following the recent increase in diesel prices.
According to the details, Pakistan Railways has officially announced an increase in train fares following the recent increase in diesel prices. This decision has come a few days before Eid-ul-Fitr, which will put an additional financial burden on passengers.
According to the Pakistan Railways spokesperson, the change in fares was inevitable due to the 20 percent increase in diesel prices. Under the new decision, the economy class fares have been increased by 5 percent.
The Pakistan Railways spokesperson said that the AC class fares have been increased by 10 percent, while the freight train fares have been increased by up to 20 percent.
The spokesperson explained that the railways itself will bear a large part of the operational costs of passenger trains so that there is no excessive burden on passengers. These new fares will be applicable on all trains from March 9.
However, the good news is that this increase will not apply to passengers who have already made reservations. Railway officials say that this step was necessary to continue train operations in view of the rising fuel prices.
It should be noted that the government has increased the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 55 each per liter, one liter of petrol has become Rs 321.17, one liter of diesel has become Rs 335.86, kerosene has become expensive by Rs 130.8 to Rs 318.81 per liter.
The sudden increase in the price of the existing stock of petroleum products has posed a serious threat of a new wave of inflation in the country. The providers of products and services are increasing their prices, but the entire burden has fallen on the public and the workers.
