Pakistan Railways reduces train fares by over 50%

LAHORE: Given the recent decline in fuel prices, the Pakistan Railways Department reportedly reduced the train fares across various classes on Tuesday.

The official notification regarding the fare reduction has been issued and is effective immediately.

The railway authorities have reduced the train fares from one kilometer to 200 kilometers. According to the notification, the fares of all classes of trains have been reduced.

The economy class fares of some trains have been reduced by up to 54% while the AC class fares have been reduced by 40%.

The minimum fare for the economy class running between Lahore to Rawalpindi route was Rs 250 which has now been reduced to Rs 100.

Similarly, the fare of Khyber Mail economy class from 1 km to 130 km was Rs 250 which has been reduced to Rs 100. This decision was taken for the convenience of passengers traveling in trains on short-duration routes.

On May 15, diesel prices were cut by Rs7.88, bringing the retail price down to Rs274.08. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) saw a decrease of Rs7.88, now priced at Rs274.8 per litre.
