KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has ordered a price cut for naan and chapati in the Karachi Division, effective immediately.
Under the new notification, the price of a 100-gram chapati has been set at Rs 10 per item. For tandoori naan, the prices have been fixed as follows: Rs 15 for a naan of 120 grams, Rs 17 for a naan of 140-150 grams, and Rs 22 for a naan of 180 grams.
This has been done under the powers of the Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 2005 (Amended in 2008).
The Commissioner has issued a warning that action will be taken against anyone violating the newly fixed prices. Tandoor owners have been instructed to display the new price list prominently at their business establishments in order to facilitate transparency and adherence.
The initiative is intended to control the prices of these basicfood items and safeguard consumers against price gouging. By settingprices and enforcing compliance, the Karachi administration aims to bring relief to citizens and encourage fair business practices in the city.
