KARACHI: After the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, the effects of inflation have rapidly spread to other essential commodities, due to which there is a fear of a significant increase in the prices of ghee, cooking oil, and flour.
According to grocers, the prices of rations in the open market are already at a high level, and after the increase in petrol prices, a further increase has become inevitable due to the increase in the cost of delivery of goods, which may lead to a further increase in prices in the coming days.
Market sources say that currently, 5 kg of flour is being sold in the open market between Rs 770 and 830. Similarly, grade I ghee has reached Rs 590, and cooking oil has reached Rs 595 per liter.
Grade II ghee is available at Rs 540 and oil at Rs 545 per liter, while grade III ghee is being sold at Rs 470 and oil at Rs 475 per liter.
Economic experts say that the effects of the increase in the prices of petroleum products will not be limited to these items, but the prices of vegetables and fruits are also likely to increase further, which will adversely affect the budget of the common man.
Citizens have demanded that the government take immediate and effective steps to control inflation so that the public can get some relief.
