KARACHI: The price increase of petrol and diesel will result in higher costs for essential goods, which include medicines throughout Pakistan.

The milk, vegetables, fruits and medicines prices are likely to increase after a hike in the prices of the petroleum products. Passenger fares will experience an increase as a result of this development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued orders that petrol and diesel price increases must not impact consumer and passenger prices, while he ordered complete price monitoring.

The experts demonstrate that high petrol and diesel prices prevent any possibility of stopping fare increases. The price of Panadol syrup, which is for children, has become very expensive because of the petrol and diesel price increases.

The current situation shows that medicine prices are experiencing an ongoing increase. The price of one medicine has doubled while all other medicines in the market have experienced price increases, according to Muhammad Sami, who lives in the Sanda area of Lahore.

The New Petrol price reached Rs399.58 on Thursday night, while the diesel price increased by Rs19.39 for May 2026. The government has raised fuel prices, which will create financial difficulties for Pakistani citizens starting from May 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Energy Petroleum Division announced the decision through a press release on April 30. The largest price increase has occurred with high-speed diesel HSD which serves as the primary fuel for trucks and buses and agricultural equipment.

The price of the product has risen by Rs. 19.39 per liter, which now stands at Rs. 399.58. The sharp increase in prices will create negative consequences for transportation.
