ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Owais Ahmed Leghari, while giving the good news of relief from load shedding to the public, said that due to timely measures, the public will not have to face load shedding in the future.

Federal Minister for Energy Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, while giving a statement regarding the end of load management, said that we received LNG gas yesterday, and as soon as the gas was received, the load management of electricity was ended.

Owais Leghari said that today, 13 to 14 days ago, the public had to face load shedding, in both of which, five hours of load shedding had to be done, no load management was done on April 17, 18, 19, from April 19 to 29, load shedding was limited to 2 to 2.5 hours, 15 days ago today, the ministry’s position was presented in a press conference, it was said that load shedding is not due to any of our shortcomings or non-functionality or lack of production capacity of the system.

He said that during the previous term of Nawaz Sharif, load shedding had been eliminated from the country, but after 6 years, load shedding was faced again.

The reason for load shedding was the shortage of gas, which was not being received due to the US-Iran war. If we generate this electricity from diesel or furnace oil and eliminate all the requirements of load shedding, this electricity would have been very expensive. Due to expensive electricity, it could have burdened the consumers.

He said that releasing the water from the dams is the need of IRSA, and it depends on the needs of the provinces. Alhamdulillah, now the generation of electricity from hydroelectric power has reached 6,000 MW. Before that, the generation of hydroelectric power was up to 1,000 MW.

I pray that the transmission lines are safe from all kinds of disasters and breakdowns. On the spot, we had to buy expensive gas because Qatari gas was not available. Just as load shedding did not happen before, I hope that this will not happen again.

The Federal Minister further said that some quarters are spreading misconceptions that we have a power generation capacity of 46,000 megawatts.

This impression is completely wrong. Power generation is not 46,000 megawatts but 32,000 megawatts. Power generation capacity fluctuates during different periods of the year.

Alhamdulillah, Allah Almighty has led us to eliminate load shedding. To eliminate load shedding, we were forced to operate furnaces and fuel-powered plants. We will do our best to protect consumers from expensive electricity.
