MUMBAI: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that he is dreaming of the day when a hijab-wearing daughter will become the Prime Minister of India.
Addressing a rally in Maharashtra’s Solapur city, Owaisi reminded that according to the Constitution of India’s first Law Minister Babasaheb Ambedkar, every citizen has the right to become the Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Mayor.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was very angry at Owaisi’s statement and started criticizing him. The BJP said that Owaisi should first make a woman wearing a hijab the president of his party.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there is no restriction in the Constitution, but India is a country of Hindu civilization and the Prime Minister will be a Hindu. Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC said that the standard of leadership should not be religion but performance.
Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the hatred being spread against Muslims, saying that hatred does not last long and one day love will prevail. His statement has sparked a new debate in Indian politics and exacerbated differences between different parties.
