LAHORE: The Punjab Food Department on Tuesday announced major changes in the packaging rules for flour sold across the province.

As per the details, the new regulations specify separate color, weight categories and labeling requirements for different types of flour products to improve market clarity and consumer convenience.

According to the official notification, plain flour will now be sold in white bags, available in both 10 kg and 20 kg sizes.

The fortified flour, which contains additional nutrients to enhance health benefits, will be packaged in orange colored bags, also available in 10 kg and 20 kg sizes.

Additionally, the special super-flour will be sold in silver or gray bags, specifically in 15 kg packages.

Earlier in the day, flour mill owners had threatened to go on strike on July 11 (Thursday) against the implementation of 2.5 per cent withholding tax in Budget 2024-25.

In a statement, flour mill owners said that if their demands are not met, they will shut down mills across Pakistan from Thursday.

Chairman Flour Mills Association Sindh Aamir Abdullah said in his statement that they will stop washing and grinding of wheat from July 10 (tomorrow) and will go on a complete strike from Thursday.

He said that he was already facing difficulties in running his business due to rising electricity bills.
