Punjab launches interest free E-Bike Scheme for students

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched the Electric Bike (E-Bike) Scheme 2026, allowing male students to own an electric motorcycle with a Rs15,000 down payment and monthly installments of around Rs2,000 under an interest-free financing plan.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the initiative during a ceremony in Arifwala, where 10 government schools were upgraded to Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence. She also unveiled several education reforms, including the establishment of Schools of Eminence in every tehsil, modernization of public schools, and the introduction of AI laboratories across the province.

Key Features of the E-Bike Scheme

Under the scheme, eligible students will receive electric bikes on affordable, interest-free installments.

  • Down Payment: Rs15,000
  • Monthly Installment: Approximately Rs2,000
  • Financing: Interest-Free

The government says the payment schedule has been designed to ensure it is affordable for students.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be at least 18 years old (with relaxation up to 35 years in certain cases).
  • Be enrolled in a recognized degree college or university.
  • Study at an institution recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
  • Hold a valid Punjab domicile.
  • Possess a valid motorcycle driving licence or a learner’s permit.
  • Not own any registered motor vehicle.
  • Only one applicant per family will be eligible, even if multiple siblings qualify.

How to Apply

Applications will be accepted only through the official Punjab Government online portal.

Applicants should:

  1. Register or log in using their CNIC and personal details.
  2. Complete the online application form.
  3. Upload the required documents.
  4. Submit the application.
  5. Wait for verification and the computerized balloting process.
  6. Track the application status through the online portal.

Required Documents

Applicants are generally required to submit:

  • CNIC or B-Form
  • Bonafide student certificate (if required)
  • Punjab domicile certificate
  • Motorcycle driving licence or learner’s permit
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Any additional family details or affidavit, if requested

Government Issues Warning

The Punjab government has advised students to avoid unofficial websites or agents and rely only on the official portal for updates and computerized balloting results.

It is also worth noting that female students across Punjab will receive free electric bikes under the government’s initiative.
