KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi has announced new prices of sugar for the holy month of Ramadan 2026 to provide relief to the public.
Officials say the new rates will be effective immediately. The wholesale price has been fixed at Rs 138 per kilogram while it will be available in the retail market for Rs 141.
He noted that sugar prices vary in different cities, with some areas having more reasonable rates while others are higher.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on February 18 in Peshawar to sight the moon of Ramadan 1447 AH, with meetings of zonal committees across the country taking place simultaneously.
The meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will decide whether Ramadan will begin on February 19 or February 20.
The birth of the moon is expected on February 17 but is unlikely to be seen on that day. Scientific predictions suggest clear visibility on February 18, making February 19 the first day of Ramadan in Pakistan.
