Sindh CM accelerates solar home system distribution across province

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed to speed up the process of distribution and installation of solar home systems.

A review meeting of the Rs 18.2 billion solar home system project was held under the chairmanship of the Sindh Chief Minister. On this occasion, Syed Murad Ali Shah said that free solar home systems are being provided to 275,000 poor families. Affordable and sustainable energy is essential to improve the quality of life of poor families. The project will cost Rs 18.2 billion. 60 million.

In the briefing, the Sindh Chief Minister was told that solar home systems will be provided to 275,000 families, 132,000 off-grid and 143,000 on-grid consumers will benefit, and each family will be provided with 180-watt solar panels, lithium batteries, fans and LED lights.

The meeting was informed that 11,571 solar home systems have been installed so far, installation is underway in Ghotki, Umerkot, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Thatta and Karachi, the project was started in April 2025 and will be completed by June 2027.

The meeting was informed that safe consumers using 100 units will be included in the on-grid project, poor families from remote, rugged, mountainous and desert areas are included in the off-grid project, priority is being given to deserving families registered in the Benazir Income Support Program, the National Energy and Transport Corporation is providing solar kits.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed to ensure the distribution of solar kits in a transparent, fair and effective manner, saying that this project is a means to improve the lives of poor families. Priority should be given to deserving families in remote areas.

Solar kits are a guarantee of reducing energy deprivation and a better future. Continuous monitoring of installation quality, technical support and maintenance and implementation of the project should be further accelerated.
