LAHORE: Pakistanis are seeing a surge in demand for strawberries, with the surge in demand pushing prices to a staggering Rs1,000-1,300 per kilogram.

Sources have revealed that both ripe and unripe crops are ready in the fields, but farmers are facing increasing financial pressure this season.

The cost of cultivation has increased dramatically due to high costs of planting, fertilizers and crop spraying, leaving farmers struggling to maintain profitability. Experts have warned that this rising cost of production is directly affecting market prices, making strawberries a luxury item for many households.

Despite the challenges, women are playing a vital role in agriculture. In the fields, they are actively involved in weeding, plant care, and other farming tasks. Regular irrigation, bird protection, and tireless work are essential to ensure a successful harvest.

The demand for fresh fruits on iftar tables has increased due to Ramadan, with strawberries being sold at prices ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,300 per kilogram. Despite the price hike, consumers are still flocking to the markets, determined to include fruit in their evening meals.
